William Henry Jackson
1936
Two Story House, an Ancestral Puebloan site, is visible in the background mesa towards the top left of this painting. In his diary, Jackson described how after an evening spent joking about finding a site, a member of the crew "...pointed to the highest point of the cliff at random...and behold upon close observation in the waning light there really was something that looked like a house... Forgetting the fatigue of the days [sic] work all hands started out at once to investigate."
