Pre-Visit Materials

Before coming to Mount Rainier National Park, you can view short written narratives of what to expect:

Quieter Times and Areas in the Park

The Ohanapecosh Visitor Center is a quieter visitor center in a less-visited area; the visitor center at Paradise tends to be busier. Trail of the Shadows is a .7 mile trail in Longmire with exhibit panels and trees along the trail that can be touched, it tends to not be crowded except on weekends.

NPS Mobile App

The NPS App has audio descriptions of exhibits and points of interest in the park. Mount Rainier National Park does not have cell service in many areas; download the app prior to coming to the park. Audio includes:

  • Self-guided tours of the Longmire Historic District, Nisqually Vista, Ohanapecosh Hot Springs, Sunrise Geology and Nature Trail, Trail of the Shadows, and more
  • Exhibit panel descriptions
  • Things to do in the park
  • Details about amenities
  • News, calendar, and passport stamp locations
  • Tours of the visitor centers
