Do you know who is in charge of taking care of America?
If you answered the President, you are correct.
Do you know the name of the man in this picture?
It's Martin Van Buren, America’s eighth president.
He wasn’t always President of the United States. He was once a child just like you, living in the small town of Kinderhook.
When his responsibility as President of the United States of America was over, he wanted to return to Kinderhook to live near those who watched him grow up.
He bought a house and a farm near the village and named it Lindenwald. He once said being a farmer in Kinderhook was the happiest time of his life.
Lindenwald is now under the protection of the National Park Service and is usually open for visitation from late Spring to early Winter.
