The park's strategic geographic location and varied habitats are largely responsible for its high faunal diversity. More than 140 species of vertebrates, including at least 44 mammals, 75 birds, 11 amphibians, 9 fish and 3 reptiles are seasonal or permanent residents. With a variety of trails, including a stretch of the Lewis and Clark Columbia River Water Trail, there are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife. In the summer you can expect to see eagles, osprey, garter snakes and banana slugs. In the fall keep an eye out for elk, migrating ducks and busy Douglas squirrels. |
