Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument
Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is a unit of the National Park Service and was the first National Monument in the State of Texas. The site is only a few miles away from Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Palo Duro Canyon State Park is less than 50 miles away and is otherwise known as the "Little Grand Canyon of Texas." Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is located 15 minutes south of Amarillo on the campus of West Texas A&M University, 2503 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX. Smmer museum hours (Memorial Day- Labor Day) are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday - Saturday and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday.
