Events and Programs at Kings Mountain National Military Park

Kings Mountain National Military Park offers a variety of programs throughout there year. You can learn more about the park’s special events and regular ranger led programs, as well as those of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail below, and plan your visit.

Lantern Tour
Saturday November 7, 2026
Join us this evening for a ranger led lantern tour of the battlefield. This is a free program, but reservations are required. Reservations will be open on November 5th. Please go to our events calendar for reservation information. We will walk the 1.5-mile battlefield trail, so please dress for the weather. Each month the tour will have a different overall theme or focus, and will also touch on topics related to the night sky and the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Please arrive by 5:45PM, the program will end at 8:00PM.

Howser House Open House

Join us for a chance to tour one of the most unique structures in Kings Mountain National Military Park. The Howser House was built in 1803 and was constructed out of cut stone making it unique in this area for the period. Visitors will be able to take self-guided tours of the house and family cemetery, attend ranger programs and learn about rural farm life in the piedmont during the early 19^th century, and view and participate in period craft demonstrations. ***Please note that the Howser House is not located at the park visitor center. The Howser House is located at 536 Rock House Road, Blacksburg SC 29702—Cherokee County.

 

Ranger-led Programs

*Ranger-led programs are offered on Saturdays and Sundays when staffing and weather permits. Please check with staff at the visitor center for availability and times. Programs will be presented by either a ranger or a qualified volunteer.

 

A guided battlefield tour at Kings Mountain.

Guided battlefield tours will last approximately 1.5 hours and will require standing and walking along the battlefield trail for a prolonged period of time. The trail is 1.5 miles long and is rated as moderate to strenuous.

 

Flintlock musket and rifle firing demonstrations will last approximately 25 minutes, and limited seating will be available. These are blank firing demonstrations
