Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument supports a diverse wildlife community. The landscape within the monument provides critical habitat and corridors for many species, from large black bears to small freshwater mussels. There have been 13 species of amphibians, 171 species of birds, 12 species of fish, 25 species of mammals, and 5 species of reptiles that have been recorded at the monument.

Remember to always keep a safe distance from wildlife and use a binocular or zoom lens when possible. Browse the species list for more information or click on the pages below to learn more about the magnificent animals that call this place home.
