Visitor Center Information

The park visitor center is your first stop for exploring the main grounds of the John Muir National Historic Site. The main 9-acre site features the Muir house and orchards.

What You Can Do

  • Watch the Film: A Glorious Journey – a 20-minute movie highlighting Muir's contributions to conservation.
  • Explore the Site: Tour the historic house and surrounding grounds at your own pace.
  • Park Store: Offers books, gifts, and educational materials related to John Muir and conservation.

Hours of Operation

Muir Home Site:
Open daily from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (year-round, except listed holidays).

Mount Wanda Site:
Open daily from sunrise to sunset
Note: Ranger-guided programs may take place at night.

Gravesite (Strentzel/Muir Gravesite):

  • Pedestrians and Cyclists: Open Monday – Friday, 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Ranger-Led Tours: Occasionally available on weekends by reservation.

The park is closed on the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving Day
