There is no food for sale within the monument. However, picnic areas are available at all three units.
Most surrounding communities do have small cafes, though some are not open every day. Many also have convenience and/or general stores with food and snacks available. Between cafes and stores, food is available seven days a week in most communities, particularly in summer months. However, it is advisable to travel with some provisions in case of unexpected closures.
The Sheep Rock Unit is located between the towns of Dayville (some services) and Kimberly (no services). It is 40 miles west of the town of John Day which has more services.
The Painted Hills Unit is located 9 miles northwest of of the town of Mitchell (some services). It is 78 miles west of the town John Day which has more services.
The Clarno Unit is located on Highway 218 between the towns of Fossil (which has some services) and Antelope (no services). It is 131 miles northwest of the town of John Day which has more services.
