Contact: Tom Bradley, 314-655-1600 October 12, 2010, from 3:00p.m. to 6:00p.m A public meeting will be held in the rotunda of the Old Courthouse to discuss the impending emerald ash borer threat to the Rosehill ash trees planted on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. Local, regional and national experts on landscape design, and landscape architects who are familiar with the problem posed by the emerald ash borer, will speak on the issues involved beginning at 3:00 p.m. A formal program will cover steps that have been taken to narrow choices for a new species to replace the ash trees currently on the grounds, and will describe the reasons why this must be done. Approximately 900 trees lining the walks of the Arch Grounds will have to be replaced in the next few years. Following the presentation, the public can ask questions and make comments on the process. The public will be welcome to view materials on the proposed transition and speak to experts working on the problem until 6 p.m. The Old Courthouse is FREE and open to the public daily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.
