Stand Fast to the Union and the Old Flag - Re-electing Lincoln in 1864

Abraham Lincoln ran for re-election in extraordinarily unique and difficult circumstances in November 1864: in the midst of a bloody civil war that had already dragged on for more than three years. Some suggested to Lincoln that the election be postponed; Lincoln refused, but worried that he would be defeated at the polls. So how did the sixteenth president manage to be re-elected as the Civil War continued to rage across the United States? Learn more about the 1864 election during this program!
