About the Artist

Penelope Griffioen was a Teen Artist-in-Residence at Isle Royale National Park in July of 2023. She came to find the unbroken wilderness of Isle Royale from Detroit, the iconic Motor City composed of glass and metal; a place that sings a song of wheels and concrete. Penelope aspires to convey the grandeur of nature in her writings, crafting all of its sights and sounds into language.
