Chellberg Farm represents a typical 1890 through 1910 Swedish and Northwestern Indiana farmstead. There were over three generations of Chellbergs from the 1860’s to the 1970’s that lived on this farmstead. Their land use, or what they farmed, changed many times over this period. In 1972, the property was sold to the National Park Service.

Although historically it is a Swedish immigrant farm, another primary purpose is to interpret environmental education on the continuum of farming and land use in the 21st century in a sustainable way. The current farming operations at Chellberg are designed to help support this interpretive programming and at the same time maintains the cultural landscape.
