The Southern Plains Network works with 11 different National Park Service units in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. All of these parks are within a short- and mixed-grass praire ecosystem.
These parks are fairly small compared to many national parks. Capulin Volcano National Monument protects natural and geologic resources, and two of our parks, Chickasaw National Recreation Area and Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, were established to provide water-based recreation opportunities to the public. Eight parks protect historic and cultural sites. But all network parks have at least one thing in common—natural resources. Their health and condition play a vital role in each site’s past, present, and future.
Below are the park units in the network and links to their websites where you can learn more.
