 The National Park Service Southeast Utah Group is pleased to announce the selection of Charlotte Quigley as the 2025 Community Artist in the Parks (CAIP).  Hours of operation for visitor centers at Arches National Park and Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park are changing for the season. The visitor centers at The Needles district of Canyonlands and Hovenweep National Monument will close entirely for a portion of this winter.  A new National Park Service report shows that 2.4 million visitors to national parks of the Southeast Utah Group in 2023 spent $397.6 million in communities near the parks. That spending supported 5,122 jobs in this region and had a cumulative benefit to local economies of $486.1 million.  The Southeast Utah Group of parks will accept applications for the 2025 Community Artist in the Parks (CAIP) program September 1-30, 2024.  Beginning in 2024, Hovenweep National Monument and Natural Bridges National Monument will transition to a fully cashless fee system and accept only mobile or electronic payments for entrance and camping fees. Camping at both parks will transition to being managed through Recreation.gov.  The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Lena Pace as superintendent of Arches and Canyonlands national parks. Pace will officially begin her new assignment on April 7. The position also supervises the superintendent at Hovenweep and Natural Bridges national monuments.  The National Park Service Southeast Utah Group is pleased to announce Annie Dalton as the 2024 Community Artist in the Parks (CAIP).
For this program, Annie Dalton will create original work within the parks for a minimum of 24 hours per month, April through October, and share her inspiration and creative process with visitors. Her works will be sold in the Canyonlands Natural History Association bookstores at Arches and Canyonlands national parks during her tenure.  The Southeast Utah Group of parks will begin accepting applications for the 2024 Community Artist in the Parks (CAIP) program on September 1, 2023. Applicants must be residents of Grand or San Juan counties in Utah, or Montezuma County in Colorado.  Canyonlands National Park and Hovenweep National Monument will restore riparian ecosystems and partner with associated Tribes with $60,000 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Another project awarded with nearly $1.6M will assess the climate change vulnerability of water supplies in many national parks affected by drought, including Arches and Canyonlands national parks and Natural Bridges National Monument.  Hovenweep National Monument kicks off its centennial year with a birthday party on Thursday, March 2, 2023. More centennial events are scheduled throughout the year.
