Is camping allowed in the park?

Camping is not allowed in the park. The closest campground is Wind Creek State Park. This park is located 25 minutes to the southwest of Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.

Where can I get a special use permit?

A special use permit application is avaliable in .pdf format here.

Can I leave my car at the boat ramp overnight?

You will need to stop by the visitor center for a permit to keep vehicles at the boat ramp overnight.

How long will a visit to the park take?

We have a 22 minute film, small museum, auto and hiking tours of the battlefield. Plan two hours if driving and three hours if walking.

Are pets allowed in the park?

Dogs are allowed on the trail if restrained by a 6-foot leash. Service animals are allowed in the visitor center.

Can I pan for gold in the park?

You may not pan for gold within the park. The extraction of minerals is prohibited from all units of the National Park System unless specifically permitted under legislation.

Can I fish at the park?

You may fish at the boat ramp with an Alabama fishing license.

Do you have a list of the participants from the battle?

We have muster rolls for the Cherokee, Tennessee militia and 39th Infantry.
