The conservation effort in Jackson Hole began more than 100 years ago. The harsh winter of 1908-1909 resulted in a large die-off of elk leading to the establishment of the National Elk Refuge. More than 50 years ago the Murie families hosted like-minded conservationists who drafted language for the Wilderness Act of 1964. Please read more about some of these stories below.
