Brown trout switch to a mostly piscivorous (fish) diet when they are approximately 8 inches in size. This diet allows them to get much bigger than the brook and rainbow trout within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Brook trout and rainbow trout do not switch to this type of diet within the park.
