Oasis Campground - located just outside the national park entrance. 90 sites total: RV sites with full hookups, tent sites, and camping cabins. Showers, laundry, restaurant, and store on site. Open April through October. Follow the link or call 719-378-2222.
Zapata Falls Campground - primitive campground on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, located 11 miles south of the park Visitor Center, at 9000 feet in elevation. Spectacular views of the entire dunefield and valley. No water; pit toilets; fire rings at each site. $11 per night. Open year round; bumpy dirt access road is not snowplowed in winter, but many vehicles drive on it, packing down the snow. No phone at campground; BLM office number is 719-852-7074. Zapata Falls Campground is now available by reservation on recreation.gov.
San Luis Lakes State Wildlife Area- 15 miles west of Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center. First-come, first-served. No potable water; bring in all your own water. Electric hookups available. Requires a $43 Colorado wildlife annual access pass, or hunting or fishing license- cannot be purchased on-site. Must be purchased in advance. No trees in campground. Lake is absent in dry years. Wetland area north of the large lake is closed to the public for nesting season February 15-July 15. Call 719-378-2020 in summer.
Rustic Rook Resort - 19 miles west of Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center. Rustic Rook offers 'Glamping' in fully furnished large tents on wooden decks as well as BYO Tent sites, Camping Cabins and Grain Bin Glampers (up-cycled farm bins made into studio apartments). Lake Como Road Free Dispersed Camping - 20 miles south of the Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center. The lower section of the road is managed by Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and is accessible to RVs and passenger vehicles. The upper part of the road is on the Rio Grande National Forest, and is accessible only by very high-clearance 4WD vehicles.
Ramble at Great Sand Dunes - privately-owned camping facility for tents or RVs located 25 miles southwest of Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center. Solar-powered, Leave No Trace camping area with sustainable practices. Private bathrooms, private open-air hot water shower stalls, dog rinse area, general store, bike rentals, 3-mile biking trail, disc golf course, horseshoe pits, access to BLM trails.
