Ed Ford is an architect based out of Charlottesville, VA. His work has been featured in many exhibits, magazines, and books including The Details of Modern Architecture, Volumes 1 and 2, which he authored. He has been the recipient of four National Park Service Artist Residencies.
While at Great Basin National Park, Ford studied the local architecture. From the early Fremont structures seen at the Baker Archaeological Site (c. 1100 AD), to the pioneer and ranching styles from the 1800s, to the more modern styles of today, there are many types of building in this region. Ford’s design is of a building that can house future Artists in Residence, as well as be used as a space for programs, classes, exhibits, and more. It is both beautiful and functional. Ford took into consideration location, setting, impact on the natural environment and functionality in planning his design. The final product is unbuilt, but can inspire us in how we see and use the environment around us.
Ford received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Architecture degrees at Washington University. He currently teaches at the University of Virginia.
