Israel Putnam served as a politician and then as a military officer during the Revolutionary War. Known for his bravery from a young age, Putnam fought during the French and Indian War. He then turned to politics, serving in the Connecticut State Legislature. When the Revolutionary War started, Putnam immediately joined the Continental Army as a General. Putnam commanded troops at several important battles.

Meet Floyd Myers, who is the Chief of Business Development and Partnerships for the National Parks of New York Harbor. He was previously the acting Deputy Superintendent at Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and worked at several other parks before that, including the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site, Selma to Montgomery National Historic Site, Booker T. Washington National Historic Site, and others.

Air Tour Management Voluntary Agreements completed for Statue of Liberty and Governors Island National Monuments

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Park Service (NPS) today announced the completion of commercial air tour management voluntary agreements with all air tour operators for Statue of Liberty National Monument and Governors Island National Monument. These agreements guide the FAA and NPS in the management of commercial air tours over these two parks.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Park Service (NPS) announce the availability of a proposed commercial air tour management voluntary agreement for Statue of Liberty National Monument and Governors Island National Monument. This agreement guides the FAA and NPS in the management of commercial air tours over these two parks. There will be a 30-day public review period beginning October 21, 2022.

Castle Williams

Built in 1811 to defend New York against foreign navies, Castle Williams would later play a role in defending the nation against domestic enemies. Castle Williams never heard a shot fired in anger, but it was used for training and organizing troops who would take the war to the Confederacy, and housed hundreds of Confederate prisoners within its massive walls.
