The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides the public the right to request access to records from federal agencies. It is described as the law that keeps citizens “in the know” about their government. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions that protect interests such as personal privacy, confidential business information, internal deliberations, and law enforcement. The National Park Service FOIA Program is decentralized and processes requests for all national parks, NPS regions, and offices. To submit a FOIA request, visit Make a Request.

As of May 8, 2023, FOIAOnline.gov should no longer be used to submit requests for accident reports in which you were involved. HOW TO SUBMIT A FOIA REQUEST

Per 43 C.F.R. § 2.3(b), to obtain a record, all FOIA requests must be submitted in written form. The requester can submit a written FOIA request by one of the following manners:

1. Online at FOIA.gov

2. Fax to the respective NPS Region’s FOIA point of contact fax number provided below.

3. U.S. Mail to the respective NPS Region’s FOIA point of contact mailing address provided below.

IMPORTANT!

• The FOIA request must be submitted by one of the options listed above. Submission of a FOIA request by any other means will not be processed.

• The NPS Region and Office FOIA point of contact information are available for correspondence purpose only. Submission of FOIA request or amendment by email will not be processed.
