American Beach Grass (Ammophila breviligulata)

American Beach Grass is an evergreen perennial grass arising from horizontal and vertical underground rhizomes. This species adapts to shifting sands by growing additional stems when buried, helping to stabilize dunes and reduce erosion. It is found on dunes throughout Gateway National Recreation Area.
