Gateway National Recreation Area is a 27,000 acre park that covers three boroughs in NYC and Sandy Hook, N.J. Parts of Gateway are historic landfills which may be contaminated with hazardous substances that could pose a risk to human health or the environment. The National Park Service (NPS) is currently pursuing cleanup at Dead Horse Bay, Great Kiils Park, and Spring Creek as lead agency under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). |
