On the night of April 14, 1865, staff at Ford’s Theatre borrowed several flags from the Treasury Department to decorate the president’s box. Assassin John Wilkes Booth caught his spur on this flag during his leap from the box to the stage as he escaped the scene of the crime. NPSPhoto
