Park grounds are open every day from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The Gallows, Commissary Building, and Visitor Center at 301 Parker Ave are open 7 days a week from 9:00am to 5:00pm, except on New Years' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Entrance Fee-free This site is fee-free year-round. No entrance fee or pass is required. Visitor Center, Gallows, and CommissaryThis building has evolved over time. Beginning in 1846, it was the enlisted men's barracks and dining hall. In 1872, it was converted to a courthouse and jail. A second, more modern jail was added in 1888. The last major change occurred between 1996-2000 when the buildings were renovated and exhibits added, making the building more accessible to visitors. The visitor center helps tell the story of Fort Smith from 1817 to 1896. Public WiFi is available.
Free WiFi is available inside the Visitor Center under the name "NPS Visitor WiFi." Cellular access is available for most users throughout the park. |
