Important Dates

• 1829 - Construction of Fort Pulaski begins
• 1847 - Fort Pulaski is completed
• January 3, 1861 - Fort Pulaski is seized by the State of Georgia
• April 10, 1862 - Federal forces attack Fort Pulaski
• April 11, 1862 - Fort Pulaski is surrendered by Confederate forces
• October 15, 1924 - Calvin Coolidge signs presidential proclamation establishing Fort Pulaski National Monument
• August 10, 1933 - President Roosevelt signed order transferring Fort Pulaski to the National Park Service.
• May 25, 1959 - Cockspur island Lighthouse transferred from the Coast Guard to the National Park Service.
• October 25, 1964 - Visitor Center opens to the public.
