Things To Do

When first visiting Fort Point, be sure to look at the weather beforehand as conditions at Fort Point tend to be colder than anticipated. Upon entering, feel free to speak with the ranger about any upcoming events and take a look at our program board for times listed for free programs.

Fort History Talks
When the Fort is open, there are daily 15 minute interpretive programs that take place at 11:30 am, 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM led by members of our staff. Some days may have more programs so be sure to check our program board.

Junior Ranger Program
Fort Point has a free Junior Ranger Program available onsite and virtually. Upon completion of the program, participants take part in a swear in ceremony to recite the Junior Ranger Oath and are then handed our signature wooden badge. If you are unable to earn your badge the day of the visit, send us an e-mail or mail in completed booklets to which we will then return along with the badge.

NPS Passport Cancellation Stamps
For those who are avid stamp collectors, Fort Point offers an array of cancellation and lighthouse stamps. Our stamping station can be found by our program board with the current date. If you have visited previously and were unable to get a stamp, send us an e-mail or mail us with a SASE and we will try to send one blank or with requested date.

Museum Exhibits
Found on the gorge side of the Fort houses a series of exhibits meant to showcase a variety of historical narratives relevant to the Fort's history. Exhibits are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. Be advised that some spaces may be closed due to new installations and restorations.

Theatre
Two short films are shown every day of operations in the theatre located on the gorge side of the Parade Ground.

Self Guided Tours, Waysides and Pop-Ups
At this time we do not have set times for daily guided tours. However, if staffing allows this may be offered. To see if one is available the day of your visit, be sure to check our program board located in the Sally Port. With interior spaces open, visitors are encouraged to explore and learn about the Fort through the variety of waysides (formal, interpretive panels that detail different events, facts and historic photos) and pop-ups (temporary exhibits and displays that incorporate short historical narratives of the fort and make connections to modern day society) set-up in different areas of the fort.

Unigrids
Park unigrids are available to pick up in the Sally Port or virtually on our website. Alternate languages are available as well.

Special Events and Programming

Candlelight Tours
During our winter season, visitors have the chance to purchase a ticket to attend our widely popular after hours Candlelight Tours. These tours take a group of visitors led by a ranger to explore the Fort in a whole new light, or rather by candlelight. Keep an eye out on our social media for announcements for when tickets will be available for purchase.

Civil War Living History Day
Twice a year, visitors are encouraged to come and experience history first hand. With interactive demonstrations that include infantry and cannon drills, tours led by staff in period piece attire, medicine, music and so much more it is quite a historic experience! This event is FREE and the next scheduled date will be August 12th, 2023 starting at 10 am.

Explore the Fort from Home

If unable to come in person, we encourage visitors to explore all that our site has to offer virtually:

Virtual Content (Social Media)
Staff are working hard to make more online interpretive content. Visitors can refer to Fort Point NHS Facebook and Twitter account for quick facts and interesting finds.

NPS Website
Fort Point NHS website also offers an array of interpretive material for visitors who wish to continue their learning after their visit- or even before.

National Park Service (NPS) App
