The National Park Service (NPS) has begun preparing a white-tailed deer management plan for Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Friendship Hill National Historic Site and Flight 93 National Memorial, all in western Pennsylvania. The dramatic increase in white-tailed deer densities over the past century have led to substantial ecological changes and degradation in both the natural and cultural landscapes of western Pennsylvania parks.

Beginning June 14, Fort Necessity National Battlefield will host a temporary exhibition, the American Revolution Experience, a collaborative project of the American Battlefield Trust and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The exhibit highlights the experiences of ordinary Americans and the choices they made leading up to and including the Revolutionary War. The temporary exhibit will travel across the country utilizing twelve panels highlighting individual stories and three interactive kiosks for visitors to explore and understand the importance of the Revolution for Americans today.
Farmington, PA- On Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, 2024, Fort Necessity National Battlefield will host a living history program recreating camp life near the reconstructed Fort Necessity to observe the 270th anniversary of the Jumonville Affair. Volunteers, staff and living historians will portray members of the French and British armies as well as Native Americans who served at the Great Meadows in 1754.
The National Park Service invites the public to celebrate Veterans Day at Fort Necessity National Battlefield. On November 10 and 11, 2023, park staff and volunteers will display a military timeline of service. The timeline ranges from the 18th century to the 20th century. This free program includes a display of camp life, equipment, and weapon demonstrations. The program takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days at the fort on the historic battlefield, rain or shine.
Park staff and volunteers invite the public to commemorate the 269th anniversary of the battle at Fort Necessity. Artillery demonstrations will be offered after each ranger program on July 1-3, 2023. Programs begin at the visitor center at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The ranger walks and weapons demonstrations last approximately one hour. Park staff will be in historic costume demonstrating soldier life throughout the three-day event.
A four-week archeological investigation has verified the location of the first skirmish of the French and Indian War. Through a partnership project, several 18th century ballistics and other artifacts were recently uncovered at Jumonville Glen, part of Fort Necessity National Battlefield.
