Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Fossil Butte National Monument is increasing recreational access and services.

As a reminder, collecting antlers within the monument is a violation of 36 CFR 2.1(a)(1)(i), which includes possessing, removing, or disturbing wildlife parts such as antlers. Violating this regulation will result in a fine of up to $5000 and/or up to six months in prison.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fossil Butte visitor center will be closed until further notice.

Fossil Butte National Monument will be celebrating National Fossil Day on October 12, 2019 by allowing visitors to prep 52 million year old fossils.
