An agreement has been signed by the NPS, BLM, and the states of New Mexico and Texas to collaboratively interpret the sites and stories of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail. The National Historic Trail, designated in 2000, commemorates the historic route of Spanish soldiers, settlers, and missionaries from Mexico City to Santa Fe beginning in 1598.
On Saturday, June 2, 2018, a new 14.7 mile portion of the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail (NHT) will open in Santa Fe. A public event dedicating this new trail and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System takes place at 11:30 am at the new Dead Dog Trailhead on Buckman Road, eight miles west of Highway 599 in Santa Fe.
