A range of management and implementation plans are used to administer El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail. These documents provide overall guidance for Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and National Park Service (NPS) administrators and their partners in trail: protection, development, and interpretation. Comprehensive Management PlanThe BLM and the NPS completed a Comprehensive Management Plan/Final Environmental Impact Statement for El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail in April 2004. You can open, read, or download the plan in sections, which are available below as PDF files.
Map Supplement Interpretive PlanIn 2004, Trail administrators finalized a Comprehensive Management Plan/Final Environmental Impact Statement that identified management strategies; administrative objectives, policies, and processes; and management actions to fulfill the preservation and public use goals for the Trail. All alternatives considered in that document assumed the continued operation of the El Camino Real Heritage Center —located on BLM land and managed by New Mexico Historic Sites—which operated as a focal point for interpretation and education related to the Trail and its resources. However, the Heritage Center closed permanently in 2017.
