Visitors can enter the following visitor facility buildings at the Laboratory Complex:

  • Visitor Center (Building 1) which includes the park orientation film and the museum store which will also re-open.
  • Main Laboratory Building (Building 5) which includes Thomas Edison’s library, machine shops, music room, and other exhibits.
  • Chemistry Laboratory at the Laboratory Complex. (as staffing allows)
  • Pattern Shop and Blacksmith Shops are available to look in.
  • Edison's film studio, the "Black Maria", a full scale replica which visitors can enter thanks to a new accessibility ramp.

Spend some time exploring Glenmont, the estate of Thomas and Mina Edison. Thomas Edison purchased this grand estate for his new bride, Mina Miller Edison, in 1886. It is here that the Edison's raised their children and entertained friends, family, and Edison business associates.

Glenmont Estate House Tour

  • Reserved tickets for the Glenmont Estate house tour will be released to reserve in advance of the scheduled tour. Bookings will close at 11:59 P.M. on the day before the tour. Please be sure to reserve your tickets online in advance of your arrival if you want to be sure of a tour.
  • Same-day house tour tickets are not available online, but may be available at the visitor center. These may not be reserved or held, and go on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All visitors must start their tour at the Laboratory Complex, pay their park entrance fee, and get a pass to go to Glenmont at the Visitor Center. For more information, visit our Glenmont Tours page.
  • Tours take place between on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Exact tour times and availability may vary, and the tours are conducted on a seasonal basis..
  • This is a 30-minute tour of the first and second floors of the mansion interior at Glenmont. Tours of the Glenmont exterior grounds are offered separately, including the free Guide by Cell tour, with the audio and transcripts available on this website and on the official NPS app.
  • Glenmont is not fully accessible. Tours consist of climbing many stairs with no assistance or elevator, and standing unassisted for the duration of the thirty minute tour. For more information see our Accessibility page.
