The month of June holds spiritual and cultural significance for the tribes closely associated with Mato Tipila – Bear Lodge (Devils Tower). The 1995 Devils Tower National Monument Climbing Management Plan established a voluntary closure for all climbing routes on the Tower out of respect for the cultural activities of Native Americans.

DEVILS TOWER, WY – On Saturday, July 22nd, the National Park Service and Devils Tower Natural History Association will host the Annual Bat Festival in the Picnic area of the Monument from 12 to 10 pm. This festival will include presentations and fun educational activities all about the amazing nighttime resident of Devils Tower/Bear Lodge – The Bat!
Last month, Devils Tower staff attended a high-angle rope rescue course. This course was instructed within the monument by “Rigging for Rescue” out of Ouray, CO. The 1-week seminar included detailed instruction on high-angle rescue systems and how to use technical equipment for practical use.
Rock climbing routes on the East and Northeast Faces of Devils Tower summit will be temporarily closed effective immediately to protect nesting Peregrine and Prairie Falcons.

Chief Ranger Matt Roland was recently recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for achieving 20 consecutive years of National EMS Certification. This distinction is an honor held by few EMS professionals.
