Ranger Update

The Sugar Bears out of Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks floated in to basecamp yesterday morning, July 12, for the final camp extraction of the season. The Chinook crews worked with three NPS rangers (Chris Erickson, Mik Shain, and Joey McBrayer) in loading all the camp Action Packers. tents, and other camp gear internally in the two Chinooks. Meanwhile, Ranger Joe Reichert and A-Star helo pilot Andy Hermansky retrieved the seasonal radio repeater from the top of Mount Crosson.

Once the gear sweep was finished, the Chinooks returned to Talkeetna State Airport to the waiting NPS ranger staff who began the unloading, unpacking, cleaning, repairing, re-packing cycle for next mountaineering season!

Around the same time, A-Star B3e helicopter pilot Andy Hermansky, along with rangers Joe Reichert and David Weber, flew to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park to assist in a short-haul rescue of three stranded hikers. After another smooth operation, they were back in Talkeetna by dinnertime.
