And just like that, the 2024 Denali mountain climbing season is OVER!

With most stuck at the Kahiltna Basecamp for almost an extra week due to unflyable weather conditions, the last 38 climbers of the 2024 season flew out to Talkeetna yesterday.  All climbing parties on Denali and Foraker are now done for the season, though we will continue to see backcountry users and courses in the Alaska Range for several more weeks.  Additionally, several planeloads of NPS camp gear is still awaiting a fligh out of Basecamp - hopefully good weather will arrive soon.

An auspicious day in other ways -- today marks the 60th anniversary of Charles Crenchaw's ascent of Denali.  Crenchaw was the first African American to reach the summit of Denali, climbing the Muldrow Glacier Route with Al and Frances Randall.  For more information about Crenchaw, as well as his historic climb, check out the The Mountaineers website.
