Do strenuous activities during the cooler times of the day. *Dress appropriately – Lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing is best to reflect heat. *Minimize direct exposure to the sun – Sunburn reduces your body’s ability to get rid of heat. Wear sunscreen and a hat. *Drink plenty of water – Non-alcoholic and decaffeinated drinks are best for hydration. Sip water throughout the day to stay hydrated. *Take breaks in cooled areas – Cool down in air-conditioned areas to prevent getting overheated. Air conditioning is available at Sea Camp Ranger Station and the cooling room on the south side of the Ice House Museum at Dungeness Dock. *Take cool showers – Sea Camp and Stafford Beach campgrounds have cold showers. They will cool you well. *Keep an eye on each other – Each person reacts differently to heat conditions. Check on each other to assess how they are feeling. ![]() Photo credit VisualWorkPlaceInc |
