Picnic Area Individual picnic tables are on a first come-first served basis and are free. Picnic Shelter In order to reserve the shelter, you must fill out an application for a Special Use Permit. Please note - this shelter is appropriate for organized picnics. Unfortunately, we cannot hold dates and only accept reservations for the current calendar year. However, you may call 864-461-2828 to see if the date you want is available and print and fill out the application and bring it with you. Please read and sign the application and return it to: Cowpens National Battlefield Visitor Center, 4001 Chesnee Highway Gaffney SC 29431 This can only be done in person between 9am and 4:30pm. When we receive the complete application and fees, you will be notified if it has been approved and asked to sign a binding permit at that time. Non-refundable fees for reservation of shelter: Payment must be made in the form of a check to the National Park Service. The shelter is not reserved for your group until the payment is received in our office. The fee is waived for curriculum-based school groups and the military. This permit is for the shelter area only, not all surrounding grounds or area. It is expected that the area, including restrooms, will be left clean and orderly at the conclusion of your use of the facility. Your adherence to all the rules and regulations governing the battlefield in addition to the conditions stated in this letter will insure the continued privilege of using this facility. Your safety and enjoyment are important to us. Please remember you share the battlefield with persons from throughout the United States and many other countries as well. Speed limit on the Loop Road is 30 miles per hour and in the picnic area it is 20 miles per hour. Parking is allowed only in marked spaces. The Auto Loop Road is a one-way road from the Visitor Center to the exit near the front gate. To exit the picnic area, turn right on the Loop Road. We encourage your group to learn more about the story of the Battle of Cowpens.
