Use the Add Display Template dialog to define a layout for Custom Element data. The dialog displays in edit mode for existing Elements and has three tabs, as shown below, for easily creating layouts and conveniently saving changes when switching between edit and preview modes.
Access this dialog from the Site Administration dashboard. Expand Elements in the left panel, click Elements & Forms to display the Manage Elements dialog, then click a Layouts link for a selected Custom Element. From the Manage Layouts dialog, click the edit icon to view or change an existing Display Template, or click Add Display Template to create a new layout.
You can also access this dialog from the Element menu Choose Layout option at the page level. See the Elements Reference for details.
Use the Edit tab to format your layout using the Rich Text Editor. You can add a combination of HTML and form field value placeholders to build up the display template for the Custom Element. In this mode, the Rich Text Editor operates just like the standard mode used for the Formatted Text Block Element. Any HTML can be added into the block for presentation to the client browser.
