Volunteer Opportunities

Colorado National Monument offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups who want to donate their time and talents to help preserve this scenic landscape.

The main ongoing volunteer programs are trail ambassadors, special events, and the visitor center. Trail ambassadors hike the trails in the monument to answer questions, talk to hikers, offer advice, teach people about the monument, and monitor trail conditions and park resources.

The visitor center is often the main point of contact for people visiting the monument. Volunteers help them with planning their visit, hiking recommendations, park information, and advice. They also swear in Junior Rangers and educate people about park resources.

Throughout the year, we need volunteer help with special events. These events include the desert bighorn sheep count, the National Park Service and the monument's birthday events, Tour of the Moon bike ride, Archaeology Day, and the Rim Rock Marathon.
