Getting Here By Car Obtain gas in Willcox (if coming from I-10) or in Sunizona (if coming from the south); gasoline is not available at or near the monument. From Tucson: Chiricahua National Monument is located 120 miles southeast of Tucson. Take I-10 east from Tucson to the first exit for Willcox. Travel 3 miles into town to the stoplight and turn right. You will follow Arizona State Highway 186 for 32 miles to the junction of Arizona State Highway 181. Turn left and 4 miles later you will be at the Chiricahua entrance station. From Lordsburg (New Mexico):
Chiricahua National Monument is located 110 miles west and south of Lordsburg, New Mexico. Take I-10 west from Lordsburg for 67 miles and take exit 344 in Willcox, AZ. Turn left onto Highway 186 and follow for 32 miles to the junction of Arizona State Highway 181. Turn left and follow for 4 miles to Chiricahua National Monument. By Plane Major airports are in Tucson (120 miles) or Phoenix (240 miles). Several rental car companies are available at each one. Public Transportation There is no public transportation to the park. Hiker Shuttle A free hiker shuttle operates from September to April and takes hikers to the Echo Canyon or Massai Point trailheads. It departs from Faraway Ranch parking lot at 9:00 am and the campground restrooms at 9:10 am. No advance registration is required, just meet at the pickup point the morning of your hike. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Shuttle service is subject to weather and staff availability and may be cancelled without notice. |
