NICHOLASVILLE, KY – The National Park Service (NPS) is excited to announce the new operating hours and the September Calendar at Camp Nelson National Monument. The park’s Visitor Center, Museum, and Reconstructed Barracks will be open 7-days a week through Sunday, September 8, 2024. The buildings are closed on September 9th and 10th.
Starting on Wednesday, September 11th, the buildings will be open 5-days a week (Wednesday – Sunday). The buildings will be open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The grounds remain open sunrise to sunset.
Saturday, September 28th National Public Lands Day (9:30 am – 12:00 pm)
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is traditionally the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits.
Join the NPS for NPLD on Saturday, September 28, 2024! Volunteers will assist park staff with the removal of wooden fencing at the site of the former US Army Prison, located southeast of the Visitor Center.
Participants should wear long sleeves and pants and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Working gloves and tools will be provided.
Meet NPS staff at Camp Nelson National Monument’s Visitor Center.
