Current Projects for 2026Multiple road construction and maintenance projects are underway in any given year on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which aim to improve safety, upgrade infrastructure, and preserve the Parkway’s natural appeal. The active projects highlighted below, include, Helene recovery projects, roadway resurfacing, bridge repair and replacement, enhanced signage, and other infrastructure improvements. What's Happening: Critical repairs to James River Bridge Begin What to Expect & Detours: A signed detour is in place from north to south beginning at milepost 61.4 and the intersection with VA Route 130, continuing to US Route 501, and reentering the park at milepost 64. A portion of the James River Visitor Center parking lot will remain open to provide access to portable toilets. Walking trails at the site, including the foot bridge, will be closed during this project. Milepost 86 to 89

Milepost 291.8-305.1 Boone/Blowing Rock, NC What’s happening: Pavement reconstruction, slope reconstruction, drainage and bridge repair. What to expect: Park visitors and neighbors can expect various sections within this corridor to be closed intermittently while work is underway. Staggered closures are planned in a way that provides continuous access to popular park recreation areas. Project Start: Spring 2026 Target Completion: Fall 2026 GAOA funded News Release Detour Maps This is the final phase of work on a $100M+ project, spanning 75 miles of the parkway. The project includes repaving and rehabilitation along the mainline motor road, as well as repairs to road drainage structures, curbs, walks, shoulders, guardrails, overlooks and signage. Funding for this project comes from the Great American Outdoors Act’s Legacy Restoration Fund. GAOA is part of a concerted effort to address the extensive maintenance backlog in national parks. Supported by revenue from energy development, the fund provides up to $1.3 billion per year for five years to make significant enhancements in national parks to ensure their preservation. This project is jointly managed by the NPS and the Federal Highway Administration. MP 317.6 to MP 324.7
South of Linville Falls What’s happening: Slope reconstruction and stabilization, drainage repairs, road rebuild and paving, curbing. What to expect: Full closure.
