Let a park ranger be your guide! Whether you want to explore on land or water, we offer several ways for you to join a ranger-led outing. All programs are FREE and family-friendly! Canoe TripsJoin park rangers for a guided canoe trip on the waters of the preserve. The program targets the casual and novice paddler. Canoes, life jackets, and paddles are provided. Visitors are asked to bring water, snacks, and water shoes. Canoe trips start at 10:00 am and take 3-4 hours. Locations vary. We have 16 seats available per trip. Please limit one family per reservation. Reservations open 2 weeks prior to the trip date. Nature WalksTake a short walk with a ranger on a trail and learn what makes the Big Thicket unique, from the plants and animals to the history of its people. Nature walks last 1 hour. Times and locations vary. Off-the-Beaten-Path HikesTake a walk on the wild side! Explore some of the more rugged parts of Big Thicket National Preserve with a ranger, including the Canyonlands Unit and Lance Rosier Unit. These hikes may last longer than 1 hour and require participants to hike off-trail through the woods. Reservations required. Special EventsWe occasionally host special events where you can learn how to fish, become a junior ranger, plant a tree, and more. |
