Bunker Hill Associates will raise the Bunker Hill flag at the Monument and host a ceremony to recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of Charlestown veterans.

Naturalization Ceremony

Thursday, June 13, 9:30am - 12:00pm

Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold a naturalization ceremony at the Bunker Hill Monument. Seventy-five new citizen candidates will be sworn in and receive a Passport to their National Parks. The Monument will be closed for the morning and reopen for climbing following the ceremony.

Memorial Flag Garden

Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds

The National Parks of Boston, British Consulate, American Legion J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26, and Home Base will engage the public in planting a memorial flag garden on the grounds of the Monument to remember lives lost on or as a result of the battle on June 17, 1775. The planting takes place immediately following the naturalization ceremony. New citizens will be invited to plant the first flags. The public is encouraged to participate.

The public is invited to join the reading of names of lives lost at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Bunker Hill Museum

"The Promise of Liberty Tour" will be a major traveling exhibit featuring original documents that have shaped the nation. The original 1776 Boston printing of the Declaration of Independence and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech from the March on Washington are among the historic documents on display. Tour President Seth Kaller is a leading expert in acquiring, authenticating, and appraising American historic documents and artifacts. Meet Kaller and help finalize the exhibit at special workshopping sessions on Friday, June 14 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, June 15 at 11 a.m. The exhibit will be on display for public viewing Friday, June 14-Monday, June 17.

The Bunker Hill Parade Committee will host a community concert featuring live music by Jinty McGrath and Band at the Monument.

Luminary Gathering of Remembrance

Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds

The National Parks of Boston and Bunker Hill Monument Association will host a Luminary Gathering of Remembrance at the Bunker Hill Monument and grounds. Charlestown families, residents, elected officials, service members, and the general public are invited to encircle the Monument with handheld lanterns provided by the National Park Service. Music will be provided by the Warren-Prescott eighth grade choir and a community string ensemble. The gathering will conclude with the illumination of the Monument and a moment of silence to reflect on its timeless significance as a beacon of hope and possibility.

Bunker Hill Parade

The Bunker Hill Parade Committee will host the annual Bunker Hill Parade. The parade commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill, the armed services, and the essence of American heritage while celebrating the historic neighborhood of Charlestown.

Bunker Hill Ecumenical Service & Procession

Saint Francis De Sales Parish to Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds

American Legion J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 will host an ecumenical service at Saint Francis De Sales Parish, followed by a procession from the church to the Monument. The procession will stop briefly for a wreath laying at Bunker Hill Burial Ground officiated by the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and Massachusetts Freemasons. The USS Constitution Color Guard, The Musick of Prescott’s Battalion, Warren-Prescott School Choir, elected officials, and dignitaries will also join the procession along with the general public. A trolley will leave the Bunker Hill Museum at 1 p.m. for the service for those that require transport.

Bunker Hill Remembrance Ceremony & Oration

Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds

The National Parks of Boston, Bunker Hill Monument Association, and American Legion J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 will host the annual Battle of Bunker Hill Remembrance Ceremony & Oration on the grounds of the Monument. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey will provide the oration. Speakers will include: British Consul General Peter Abbott; Segun Idowu, Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, City of Boston; Mohegan Tribal Historian Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel; and Christian Di Spigna, Executive Director, Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation. Park Superintendent Michael Creasey will open and close the program.

Paid parking is available for all events at the Nautica Parking Garage located at 88 Constitution Road. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the Bunker Hill Monument.

Park Information

Over the span of three decades, Superintendent Creasey has blended his background in planning, public lands management and academia to serve in a variety of leadership positions with the National Park Service.

Creasey currently serves as the general superintendent of the National Parks of Boston which include Boston Harbor Islands, Boston National Historical Park, and Boston African American National Historic Site.

In 2010, he took a sabbatical and attended Harvard University Graduate School of Design as a Loeb Fellow where he concentrated on leadership, urban planning and public policy.

Prior to coming to Boston, Superintendent Creasey was the Director of the NPS Stewardship Institute and Superintendent of the Marsh, Billings Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, Vermont. The Park and Institute convened park practitioners that explored innovative approaches for land conservation, environmental leadership and civic engagement. Creasey and his team were the architects of the NPS Urban Agenda that defined a strategy for designing 21st century parks and reaching more diverse constituencies and making parks relevant to all Americans.

He has also served as the Superintendent of Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts; the Commissioner for the National Parks of New York Harbor, overseeing ten national parks within the metro region of New York City and New Jersey; the Executive Director of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor in Rhode Island and Massachusetts - a bi-state partnership aimed at environmental restoration, historic preservation and recreation development; as Project Manager on the Los Caminos del Rio Heritage Project, a complex and collaborative planning effort along the lower 200 miles of the Rio Grande River in Mexico and Texas and; as a Park Planner for the NPS where he developed plans for new national parks and heritage areas in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and New Jersey. His early rangering years included stints as a river ranger, mounted patrol, backcountry ranger, and educator.
