Remembering Antietam: The Bloodiest Day in American History

"Remembering Antietam" explores the legacy of the bloodiest single-day battle in American history and Col. Ezra Carman’s role in documenting and preserving the battlefield where 23,000 soldiers were killed or wounded in twelve hours of combat. This U.S. victory, though costly, gave President Abraham Lincoln the opportunity to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. With President Lincoln’s bold action, the Civil War's purpose expanded from a fight to preserve the Union to include the struggle to abolish slavery.
The Antietam National Battlefield is pleased to announce we will premiere our film on Veterans Day, November 11th, at the Maryland Theater in Hagerstown, Maryland at 7:00 pm. The film will be shown in the park visitor center starting on November 12, 2024. Click here for more information about the premiere.
