Research about Andersonville and the American prisoner of war story is ongoing. The National Park Service works cooperatively with scholars and others to learn more.

Park staff maintain a bibliography of sources which provides links to many primary sources.

If you have a project idea that can add new historical information or challenge existing notions about Andersonville,contact park staff.

 

Research Library
The park maintains a collection of books and manuscripts relative to the American Civil War, the Camp Sumter military prison, northern and southern prisons during the Civil War, and prisoners of war throughout American history, the Andersonville National Cemetery, and the development, interpretation, and administration of Andersonville National Historic Site. Library holdings include books, bound volumes, vertical files, manuscripts, and other materials.

The library is open for public research by appointment only. Appointments must be made at least two weeks in advance. The library may be reserved for research Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Is help available to researchers?
Reference assistance about holdings is available, but staff are unable to undertake lengthy research investigations.
