This Historic Site has been a custodian of memories, and a silent witness to the trials and tribulations of the past. It serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made and the strength of human will.  
 
As we honor this milestone, let us continue to preserve and protect the legacy woven into the very soil beneath our feet.

ANDE

Approximately 45,000 soldiers were held as prisoners of war at Andersonville Prison between February 1864 and early May 1865. During this time 12,920 died in captivity. The prisoners held here are more than anonymous statistics or names on a roster. Each one of these men had a family and a home. Each has a story. They are the Faces of Andersonville.
