June 24-July 7: Fireworks Safety Zone Closure

The following areas are closed to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists from June 24-July 7, 2026, for the safe storage, installation, launch, and cleanup of the fireworks:
  • Poplar Point, the area north of South Capitol Street SE, including Anacostia Drive SE and Anacostia Drive, up to the entrance of the U.S. Park Police Anacostia Operations Facility
  • the area north of Howard Road SE, within the bounds of Anacostia Drive SE and Anacostia Drive

July 4: Additional Fireworks Closures

On July 4, 2026, the following areas will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists but will remain open to authorized United States Park Police officers and National Park Service rangers for fireworks operations:

  • Anacostia Drive SE from Safety Zone Closure above to Marion Barry Avenue SE
  • the park entrance at Aviation Drive SE and Marion Barry Avenue, SE
  • the park entrance at Howard Road/Anacostia Metro Access Gate entrance. The park entrance at Anacostia Drive and Nicholson Street SE

Summer at Anacostia Park

Summer is a vibrant time to visit Anacostia Park! The park comes alive with activity, offering plenty of space to relax, play, or explore along the river. Take a bike ride or walk along the Anacostia River Trail, perfect for staying active and soaking in the warm weather. Pack a picnic, stretch out under the shade of a tree, and enjoy the sunshine with friends and family.
