WASHINGTON— Join the 11th Street Bridge Park and the National Park Service Sunday on April 12th from noon to 4 p.m. for the first ever Anacostia River Festival, the closing event of the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival will take place in Anacostia Park at the corner of Good Hope Road SE and Anacostia Drive SE. What’s Happening
Come for fun, free, family-friendly activities celebrating the Anacostia River, recreation, environmental education and the arts. Relax to live music performances and participate in art demonstrations. Learn about the ecology of the river from community partners and presenters. Get out on the water for boating and fishing workshops and join the bike parade at 1 p.m.
Getting There
Public transportation or bicycle are the best ways to travel to the Anacostia River Festival. No parking is available on site with the exception of limited first come, first served handicapped parking. A free shuttle is available from the Anacostia and Eastern Market Metro stations and from Maritime Plaza at 1201 M Street SE. A bike valet will be provided; be sure to wear your helmet. What to Bring
Participants in the 1 p.m. bicycle parade will begin lining up at 12:30 p.m. and need to bring their own bike and helmet. Water bottle filling stations will be provided but visitors should bring a reusable water bottle. Food for purchase is available at Anacostia River Festival and in Historic Anacostia, but feel free to bring a picnic lunch or snacks. Don’t forget your blanket, as chairs will not be provided in the viewing area for performances. Dogs on leash are allowed in Anacostia Park and owners are responsible for picking up waste.
What Not to Bring
No alcohol is allowed in Anacostia Park. Please refrain from bringing large objects like lawn chairs or tables.
